*AN: Kso, here is another VK story! This will be happening before 'Lost' TT-TT Yeah. I'm kinda neglecting that story atm. :L Here, Zero is also 14. BUT, this happens right before Lost. It kinda go into play. I'll explain it for you guys. Everything thats happens here, will be likem a month or a few before Haruhi comes into play. It's like my little evil plan. TT-TT I LOVE YOU. Okay, I'm weird. I'm going into the story now. WAIT. Zero is 14 in this story, but in the past, he's 10. Along with Ichiru. You know how it goes. OKAY. Continuing.


Chapter 1: Nightmare Comes to Life


When Hanako woke up, her head hurt like nothing she has ever felt before. "Nnn." Suddenly, there was a knock on her door. "Come in." she said groggily, while rubbing her eyes and sitting up in her bed. Just then, her door opened, and Zero pokedhis head in, then walked in. "Hana, you haven't been feeling great lately. Are you any better today?" he asked while walking up to her bed. She shook her head no. Zero the placed a hand over her forehead and sighed. "Your temperature is rising, Hana." he said. He then turned around and walked out of her room.
Hanako then lied back down into her comfortable bed, and pulled the covers over her. She started to drift off into a light sleep until Ichiru came running in. "Hana! Hana!" he shouted excitedly. Hanako squeezed her eyes shut, gave a small groan, then pulled herself up. "What is it Ru-chan?" she asked sleepily. "Mommy and daddy are home!" he said bouncing up and down excitedly. Hanako's eyes grew wide, then she threw the covers off of her and jumped out of bed She then ran down the steps one by one with Ichiru. "Mommy! Daddy!" she shouted as she jumped into their open arms.
"Hello sweetie! How've you been" Mrs. Kiryuu asked her youngest child, Hanako. "I've been...great!" she started out slowly, then throwing a cheerful lie. "You do't feel 'great'" her dad said as he put a hand over her increasing temperature. She frowned. Her mother then put a hand over her head next, then gasped. "Hanako Kiryuu! How ever in the world did you get so sick? It's time to go back to bed!" her mother scolded. "But mo-" Hanako started before passing out from a high temperature. Mr. and Mrs. Kiryuu shook their heads. Her father picked her up bridal style, then carried her up the stairs.
"Zero! Ichiru~ How've my two boys been?" she asked as the gave them a warm hug. "I've been good, Mommy!" Ichiru said while smiling. Zero shook his head in a 'stop lying, we all know that you don't have the best immune system' kind of way. Their mother rubbed their heads and smiled before turning around and walking into the kitchen. "What would you two like for dinner?" she asked.
"Barbeque ribs!" Ichiru shouted happily. "Ramen." Zero said simply. "Kill joy." Ichiru said playfully. Zero smirked, then put his hands in his jeans pockets and leaned against a wall. Just then, their father walked in. "Mmmmm. Smells good already! What's for dinner?" he asked happily. "Barbeque ribs with a side of ramen." Mrs. Kiryuu said happily. "Dad, how's Hanako?" Zero asked.
Just then, Ichiru had a sudden attack, and fell to the floor. "Ichiru!" his mother cried out. Ichiru was coughing badly, and Zero sat next to him, and supported his head. "Ichiru. Here." his father said while handing him a glass of water, and two pills. He took a drink of the water, put the pillsin his mouth, and swallowed. Zero ran his fingersthrough Ichiru's hair, trying to comfort and uspport him. "Thanks." Ichiru said weakly. "I've got him too." his dad sadi while picking him up bridal style and left the room. "Mom, I'm worried about them." Zero said quietly. She embraced Zero into a hug. "It's okay. They'll get better. Ichiru will just take longer, considering his condition. Hanako probably just has the flu or something." she said in a comforting voice. He nodded his head, then left the room. He went into the living room and watched t.v. for a little while.
Ichiru came downstairs after some time and sat down next to Zero. His silence had Zero's attention. "Umm. Zero? Can I ask you something?" Ichiru asked nervously. Zero looked at him and noticed that Ichiru was fumbling with his fingers, and looking down. He raised an eyebrow. "What?" he asked. "Umm. Well, today while we were out, you remember that lady we saw?" Ichiru asked. Zero then glared at him suspiciously. "Continue..." he said.
"Well-" Ichiru started when their mother came into the room. "Okay boys! Off to bed now!" she said. They both stood up, and walked towards her. She gave them a big bear hug, and kissed the top of their heads. "Goodnight Ichiru! Goodnight Zero!" she said softly. "Goodnight, mother." Zero said. "Goodbye, mother!" Ichiru said happily. Both Zero and their mother were taken aback as Ichiru said this. They both stared at Ichiru as he skipped up the stairs happily. "whaa..?" she asked. Zero shrugged. He could feel something was up.
Zero then climbed up the stairs and decended into his room. Then, Mr. Kiryuu walked up to Mrs. Kiryuu. "Honey, we need to discuss something." he said. She looked at him concerned. "I fear that we must tell the association that Ichiru is not fit and in any condition to be able to hunt." he said slowly. Mrs. Kiryuu slowly nodded her head. "I agree. But we must tell them soon if he does not get better." she replied. Little did they know that Ichiru was listening in on their conversation. He climbed back up the stairs with an evil smirk.
A little while later, the pureblood princess Shizuka Hio had appeared at their house. Ichiru went to the 2d level window. "Ichiru. Are you ready?" she asked calmly. He nodded. She smiled, then jumped down from the tree. Moments later, the Kiryuu parents threw open their front door, defending the house and their children. "Shizuka Hio!" they shouted angrily. She only smirked, then she lifted up one arm. They both gripped their anti-vampire weapons and growled. With one drop of her arm, she had killed the Kiryuu parents like nothing. Zero then came running outside. "Mother! Father!" he said.
Their bodies were lying facedown in the snow, blood surrounding them. Zero then looked at their murderer, and glared. She took one step forward towards him. "Hello, Zero-kun." she said. He took a step back, but she was behind him instantly. "Whaa-" he started before she pierced her fangs into his neck. She drank from Zero, enough not to kill him. When she was done, she dropped him down into the snow. "Mission complete." she said as she wiped her mouth with a hankerchief. Then, Ichiru came out. "Ru..n..Ichi..ru." Zero said weakly. Ichiru only smiled darkly before Zero passed out from bloodloss.
"Ru-chan! Wait!" cried Hanako. "Where are you going?" she asked. Right when she got behind him, she stopped and screamed. She saw her parents dead, and Zero on the ground. She feared that he was also dead. Ichiru grabbed her hand. "What are you doing Ru-chan! We have to get help! They are all dead!" she cried. He merely hugged her. He looked up at Shizuka, and she gave the little girl a pitied look. She nodded her head.
"Hanako. I'm giving you a choice." Ichiru said. Hanako looked up at him wtih teary eyes. "You can either come with me and Shizuka-sama, or stay here to suffer with Zero." he said blankly. She looked back at Zero. "He's...alive? she asked. Ichiru nodded, and she ran towards Zero. "Zero nii-san! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!" she cried, and shoo him violently. Zero opened his eyes a little. "Ha..na..chan?" he asked weakly. Hanako merely hugged him.
"Is this your answer?" Shizuka asked. "I can't leave Zero-nii alone! But I can't leave Ru-nii either!" she cried. Zero's eyes widened. "What?" he asked quietly. He lifted his hand and grabbed the end of Hanako's hot pink jacket. She looked down at him with teary determined face. She seemed mature for only being six. "Hana-chan, you can't be two places at once." Ichiru said sadly. "B-b- but, can't we bring Zero-nii with us?" she asked, starting to sob. Zero then sat up. "No!" he shouted angrily. He pulled Hanako down into his lap, and put his arms around her, trying to protect her as best as he could. "It is decided then. No more games." Shizuka said.
"Shizuka-sama! Can't we control her mind?" Ichiru asked. Shizuka turned and looked at him, but then he shook his head as a 'nevermind' look. She stepped towards Hanako and Zero. "No!" Zero shouted. She smirked. "Zero. Let go of Hanako for me." she demanded in a smooth voice. Zero suddenly obeyed against his will. Hanako looked at Zero with a frightened look, and could see he was trying to resist. Next thing she knew, she was being held by strong arms. She could feel fangs being pierced into her skin. She let out a little cry, and the pain went away. She could hear the sound of her blood beind sucked out. Shizuka stopped after a few minutes, and put the then unconcious girl down in Zero's lap. "Arigato, my...'Puppets.'" Shizuka said before disappearing with Ichiru.
