Puppets chapter 2

Chapter 2: New Home

"Yuuki, this is Hanako and Zero Kiryuu. They will be staying with us from now on." Kaien Cross told his adoptive daughter, Yuuki Cross, of age 9. She looked up from her book and saw her adoptive father standing in the doorway with a boy with silver hair and lilac eyes, and a little girl with medium-long length silver hair and also lilac eyes.
There was something out of place. She finally noticed it quickly; they were both covered in blood. Cross seemed to notice her observing the blood. "Their family has been attacked by a bad vampire." he noted. "Why don't you take them into the bathroom and help them get cleaned?" he asked.
She nodded, walked up to the two siblings, took their hands, and lead them to the bathroom. They both followed silently, no words spoken. When they got to the bathroom, both sat down on the ledge as Yuuki got a washcloth and dampened it.
She started with Zero first, and wiped away the blood on his face, down to his neck, washing all the blood with the washcloth. "Can you please remove your shirt?" she asked softly. She unbuttoned the first few buttons before he did the rest. She looked into his eyes, and all she saw was a boy who could break apart at any moment. She could only imagine how the little girl Hanako felt.
Next, she moved to Hanako and helped wash her off. The little girl was also silent, and all Yuuki could feel was uncomfortable tension, if those were the words for it. "Umm. Headmaster is almost done cooking dinner, if you two would join us?" Yuuki shared. Zero looked over to Yuuki, then Hanako to see what the little girl would want.
"Tonight's menu is ramen!" Yuuki said, putting on a cheerful front and smiled. Zero saw Hanako's lighten up. Yuuki looked at the two, and Zero nodded for the both of them. "Okay. I'll be going to prepare the table now. Come out when you're ready." Yuuki said as she left the bathroom.
Zero stood up and held out his hand towards Hanako. She took it, and stood up. "Zero-nii." she said quietly. Her eyes started to water up. Zero kneeled down to her and embraced her into a hug. She quietly sobbed into his shirt, and had a death grip around his stomach. "It's okay, Hanako. We're gonna be okay." Zero said, attempting to comfort his younger sister.
Zero blamed himself. He saw all the red-lights that could've prevented this. He simply ignored them. Then, he ruined his younger sister's chance of survival. He could've let the pureblood princess and Ichiru take her, leaving her human and not have to go through this hellish lifestyle. His heart filled with regret that he could never release. He now felt that it was up to him to protect Hanako with everything he has, even if it means death.
A few moments later, there was a gentle knock on the door. "Dinner's ready." Yuuki stated from behind the door. They both heard Yuuki's footsteps go down the hall before disappearing from their ultra-hearing. Hanako sniffled and wiped away her tears. "Ready?" Zero asked her. She nodded and held his hand as they walked out and to the dining room.
When they entered, two concerned faces were directed to them. Obviously, it were both Yuuki and Kaien. Zero sat down at the table in a chair on the opposite side of Yuuki and Kaien, and pulled out a chair next to him for Hanako.
"So...Anything interesting?" Kaien asked cheerfully, trying to eliminate the awkward silence. Zero merely glared at him while Hanako looked at him in confusion. Kaien did an anime sweatdrop, as did Yuuki. "Well, let us eat!" Yuuki said happily. They all started to eat their ramen with chopsticks when there was a knock at the door.
"Ah...He's here!" Yuuki said happily. "Could you please get that?" Kaien asked. Yuuki nodded, jumped up from her chair, and ran to the door. A few seconds later, she was pulling in a young man, no older than 14. He patted her head and she blushed lightly.
The boy had chocolate brown wavy hair, layered to his shoulders, and he had brown-maroon eyes. He was wearing a trenchcoat over his clothes. "This is Kaname!" Yuuki said cheerfully.
Zero jumped up from his chair. "Vampire..!" he said as he lunged at the boy with a butter knife. He stabbed him in the arm, and Hanako let out a little cry. "Zero!" Yuuki said, shocked. Kaname just merely looked down at the silver-haired boy with pity. "I take it you must be Zero. I know what happened, and you shouldn't be taking this out on me." Kaname said with malice in his voice.
"Hanako, would you mind going into the living room, please?" Kaien asked gently to the little girl. She nodded, jumped down from her chair, and went running out of the room. Kaname removed the knife from his arm, and blood flowed out. Zero's eyes flashed red for a split second, enough for Kaname to see, but Yuuki to miss.
"Yuuki, could you please get me some bandages?" Kaname asked nicely to the girl. She nodded, and ran out of the room to fetch the bandages. "Hungry, vampire? Kaname asked, challenging Zero. Zero looked away with disgust.
Just then, Yuuki reappeared in the dining room with bandages for Kaname. She wrapped them around the injured arm, and he smiled at her and rubbed her head. "I think I should be going now." Kaname said. He turned to leave when Yuuki hugged him from behind. "Please visit again soon, Kaname?" she asked. He nodded and left.
"Zero. Please follow me." Kaien asked as he got up and walked out. Zero scoffed and followed. They walked down the hall and into the bathroom. Kaien handed Zero a black mini-case, filled with white tablets. Zero's eyes widened.
"What...are these?" Zero asked slowly. Kaien then handed him a glass of water. "Take out two tablets, and drop them in the water." he instructed. Zero did as told, and the tablets dissolved, and the water turned red.
"Now drink." Zero hesitated, but then took a drink of the red water. He gagged and spit it out right away. "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" Zero shouted. "It's blood tablets. They will sustain your thirst. Drinking blood is forbidden." Kaien replied softly. Zero's eyes widened. "Why..?" he asked.
"It's because you are turning into a vampire. You can resist as much as possible, but one day, your vampire instincts will just...take over." Cross explained sadly. Zero shook his head, then Cross turned and left. Zero then felt many different feelings of anger. He smashed his fist into the mirror, and many shards flew out, some cutting him. He never knew what events were coming up for him and Hanako...They would soon find out.


*A/N: SORRY GUYS! I am using this time before my bus comes to upload. :'D BE LUCKY. I'M STILL IN MY PAJAMAS, NEED TO USE THE BATHROOM YET, AND I'M FREEZING. And my bus comes in like, 5 minutes. :'D I just thought I needed to upload. xD I didn't know how to end this, otherwise it would've kept going on and on and on and on and, well, you get the point. x'D K PEACE OUT.
